The municipal non-profit enterprise «City Clinical Hospital No. 31» of the Kharkiv City Council is a multi-profile hospital of the first accreditation level, which provides specialized medical care to the population of Kharkiv and Kharkiv region.
The history of the hospital is about 50 years old. The hospital was opened on November 2, 1962, to the address: Postyshev Avenue, 4 under the name of the medico-sanitary department of the «Light of the Miner» plant. In 1976, the city polyclinic No. 4 was attached; the hospital was renamed «City Clinical Hospital No. 31». In August 1983, the Department of Surgical Diseases of the Kharkiv Medical Institute (now Kharkiv National Medical University) was organized based on surgical department.
The chief doctor of the municipal non-profit enterprise «City Clinical Hospital No. 31» of the Kharkiv City Council is Butko Kazar Matevosovych, Honored Doctor of Ukraine, Ph.D.
The bed hospital fund is 280 beds; there are six departments:

The pathoanatomical department (department of morbid anatomy) of the hospital serves City Polyclinic No. 24, City Clinical Hospital No. 31, City Hospital No. 3, City Clinical Hospital No. 11, City Polyclinic No. 22, Maternity Hospital No. 7, City Dental Polyclinic No. 4, City Dental Polyclinic No. 8, City Children’s Clinic No. 2, City Children’s Clinical Hospital No. 19. Histological studies of sectional, surgery and biopsy material are made at the high level.
The structure of the hospital includes diagnostic departments: Clinical Laboratory (performs general clinical and biochemical studies of blood, urine and other biological materials), an X-ray department, ultrasound examination room, physiotherapy and functional diagnostic rooms (performs electromyography and electrocardiography), colposcopy room, and endoscopic room.
The Hospital is the clinical base of the Department of Surgery No. 3 of the Kharkiv National Medical University, headed by Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, Doctor of Medicine, Professor Lupaltsov V.I. and the base of the Department of Health Organization, Public Management and Administration, headed by candidate of state management, Associate Professor Liermontova Yu.O., and cooperates with the communal health care institution «Regional Medical College».
The activity of the hospital is to improve the provision of medical care to patients in the city. The latest methods of diagnosis and treatment are constantly being introduced: the proportion of minimally invasive endoscopic interventions (laparoscopic cholecystectomy) has been increased, which increases the effectiveness of treatment and significantly reduces the length of time the patient stay in the hospital.
The center of hand surgery (the traumatology department and the round-the-clock traumatology station), the only one in Eastern Ukraine, which conducts modern methods of diagnosis and treatment, works the 24-hour trauma center. In the department, unique surgical interventions are carried out to renew the structures of the hand and forearm using microsurgical tactics: fractures of the hand bones, injury of the flexor and extensor tendons, foreign bodies of the hand and forearm, closed and open dislocations of phalanges and metacarpal bones, injury of the bone joint, open and closed luxations of phalanxes and fingers in case of injury, wounds of the hand with a defect of skin, nerve damage at the level of the forearm and hand, outdated hand damage, traumatic contractions of the hand, degenerative-dystrophic diseases of the hand (Dupuytren’s contracture, tunnel syndrome, etc.), soft tissue tumors of the hand and forearm, bone and cartilage tumors of the hand.
The structure of the hospital has a round-the-clock specialized trauma surgery of the hand (the only one in Ukraine), where specialized medical care is provided for patients with injuries of the hand and forearm, primary surgical treatment of wounds, closed and open reposition of the bones of the forearm and hand, osteosynthesis with the situated on bone and internal fixators (holders). Operations are performed in case of damage to tendons and nerves, skin grafting in case of skin defects, removal of foreign bodies at the level of the forearm and hand; microsurgical operations are also performed to restore the structures of the forearm and hand with the involvement of microsurgical techniques (replantation of fingers and hand, renewal of damaged peripheral nerves and blood vessels). 90% of the doctors of the round-the-clock specialized trauma surgery center of the hand have the highest category and constantly improve their professional skills by passing specialized master classes in Ukraine and abroad.
In the surgical department of the hospital carry out planned and urgent surgical interventions using modern video-endoscopic and laparoscopic technologies. Reconstructive operations are performed on the digestive organs using modern stapling machines. Endoscopically remove gastric and large intestine polyps. Surgeons carry out endoscopic hemostasis in patients with acute gastrointestinal bleeding with biopsy of the pathological structures of the gastrointestinal tract, endoscopic papillosphincterotomy in cases with choledocholithiasis and obstructive jaundice.
Planned surgical interventions are performed in patients with reducible and irreducible postoperative, inguinal, femoral, umbilical, diaphragmatic hernias (using the laparoscopic technology) with using mesh-implant, in patients with cholelithiasis, and chronic inflammation of the gallbladder. Resection of the stomach are performed in patients with complications of gastric and duodenal ulcers.
Plastic and aesthetic operations on the mammary glands are performed using modern techniques and silicone grafts of leading world brands, corrective operations in patients with deforming scars of the anterior abdominal and chest wall, abdominoplasty and others.
Emergency surgical aid is provided around the clock. Emergency operations are performed in patients with the following diseases: strangulated hernia with intestinal obstruction or necrosis of strangulated organs, peritoneal commissures disease with intestinal obstruction, colonic tumors with obstruction, perforative ulcers of the stomach and duodenum, cancer of the stomach and large intestine with or without a perforation or bleeding, intestinal obstruction, traumatic injuries of the internal organs of the chest and abdominal cavity, acute violation of mesenteric circulation, acute appendicitis, pancreatic necrosis and more.
All surgical interventions are performed as open and laparoscopic access. Conservative treatment is carried out based on modern clinical protocols and treatment regimens. Working patients after surgical interventions on the digestive organs are sent for rehabilitation to specialized sanatoria in Ukraine free of charge.
In purulent surgical department patients with soft tissue of any localization, abscesses, phlegmons, acute and chronic paraproctitis, acute and chronic hemorrhoids, complicated bleeding or thrombosis of the nodes, fistulas and cysts of the coccyx, purulent diseases of the hand, osteomyelitis, and purulent diseases of the nodes, trophic ulcers and chronic venous insufficiency, obliterating atherosclerosis, diabetic angiopathy complicated by necrosis undergo surgical treatment. Surgical interventions are carried out using ultrasound diagnostic data and determining the degree and level of peripheral circulatory disorders, determining the volume of the inflammatory process, X-ray diagnostics, using organ-saving techniques. Conservative treatment is based on the modern clinical protocols and treatment regimens. At treatment of trophic ulcers modern dressings of local action, autodermic graft are used.
The gynecological department provides highly qualified assistance to women of the city and the region with uterine fibroids, polyps, cervical erosion, ovarian cysts, and climacteric menopause. Laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery is performed using modern equipment in patients with ovarian pathology, ectopic pregnancy, pathology of fallopian tubes, infertility. In patients with the threatened abortion, perform maintenance of pregnancy up to 22 weeks. Plastic is performed in cases of prolapse of the female genital organs.
The therapeutic department is intended for the conservative treatment of patients with diseases of the cardiovascular system, respiratory organs, digestive organs, diseases of the endocrine system, including diabetes mellitus and its complications, the urogenital system diseases are treated (chronic obstructive pyelonephritis, inflammation of the prostate gland). In therapeutic department carries out the necessary clinical and laboratory investigations, x-ray and ultrasound investigations, fibrogastroscopy, and round-the-clock monitoring of blood glucose.
In the department of anesthesiology with the intensive care unit, modern technologies have been implemented for emergency qualified and highly specialized care to the population in critical conditions of different etiology: acute surgical, gynecological, traumatic pathology. The department is equipped with modern devices. Equipment is widely used for continuous monitoring of vital body functions. The wards are equipped with central oxygen supply, modern respiratory devices. When providing anesthetic care, modern methods of general anesthesia are used with modern medicines and inhalation anesthetics.
The hospital blood bank is organized based on the hospital. It modernized and equipped in accordance with the «Regulations on the Hospital Blood Bank», which allows rendering transfusion aid to patients who are treated at the hospital around the clock.
Qualified medical care is providing by 41 physicians and 77 specialists with basic medical education.
